Terrarium 1.2: is the battle still fair?

Is the upcoming Terrarium 1.2 game going to be fair if everyone can download the sources and build their own custom versions?

I hope the creators of Terrarium have anticipated this somehow...

I assume that a single version is going to be used for the (alternate?) eco-system. That would make having the source code no more than a development tool... I think. Changing the source code of your local Terrarium server doesn't change the fact that your has to run in the (controlled) eco-system.

I can also imagine a webservice call when starting up your terrarium to get some parameters that are only known to the creators of the terrarium.
