The new Terrarium client is now available for download. Here is a list of some of the changes:
- Organism SDK Installed with Client (Includes docs, tutorials, reference and skeletons)
- VS.NET 2003 Project Templates
- Resizable Window
- Full screen support (two modes, "maximize" and "Alt-Enter")
- Better screen saver support (actually takes up the full screen. Check out the <screenSaverSpanMonitors/> setting!)
- New User Interface, including multiple themes
- Style editor - create your own themes
- Updated world graphics (Additional backgrounds will be made available for download)
- Fixed the intentional exception throwing exploit
- Fixed the deserialization problem
- Lots of other bug fixes
- A simple screen saver kicks in in the case that you are running Terrarium in the background when the screen saver gets activated.
Head on over to <a href="http://www.terrariumgame.net/terrarium">http://www.terrariumgame.net/terrarium</a> to download and install it. Look for the link in the menu bar on the left side, or the quick link at the top of the page.
Please report any bugs you find to terbugs@microsoft.com. Please provide any feedback you have in this forum.
As previously mentioned, the source is ready to go, just waiting for the clearance from those lawyers!
Have fun! |

Nice job on the new client Mitch!
I really like the message feature in the bottom right.
I'm not receiving teleports however. Checked my firewall settings and everything looks right.
Ran the old client to be sure but it doesn't show any peers (the 1.2 version shows 3) - so perhaps the old server is gone or something isn't quite working network wise after all. |

Nevermind. Just took 6-7 minutes to teleport. I didn't think about the world's being mostly empty upon startup - nothing for the teleport ball to grab.
Oh another nice job for finally saving the window size and screen position for the trace and statistics window.
Any reason you didn't put a window resize feature into the Creature Details window? |

"Any reason you didn't put a window resize feature into the Creature Details window?"
That was an oversight and will get fixed. |

Hi, I have a couple of dumb questions: a) When I use the ecosystem window there are no plants. How can I introduce them to make a more "hospitable" world when creatures get teleported in? b) At the top right of the screen it says "teleports 5 (5/0/5/0). What does this series of numbers mean? c) I have no firewall up and it seems that the creatures I "reintroduce" get teleported away or die and my population goes to zero but I don't seem to get any creatures teleported into my computer. What should I do? d) What does the "introduce" (not "reintroduce") button allow me to do? When I try to use it I get a long message telling me it didn't work. e) Finally, do the creatures evolve when they reproduce? Sorry to flood you with so many questions, but I am new to the program and very intrigued by it. Thanks |

I think most of your questions are answered in the FAQ. Head over and check it out. Hopefully it isn't down right now while Mitch updates it with the latest items.
If you still have questions, drop them on a new thread, so it is easier to follow a consistent line of thinking and give response. |

Hi Mitch,
Very, very nice work! The new client is a joy - it's all the little things that make me :) like being able to move and re-size the game window. And I see you've fixed the stats window.
I had managed to kick my Terrarium habit (much to my wife's delight) but I feel the cravings getting strong again. Never ever managed to create a bug that lasted for more than 1 generation in the live ecosystem - but hey it's such fun trying.
Thanks again for all the good work. I know it must be hard fitting it in around your day job.
Cheers,
Greensiax

[.NET Terrarium 1.2.msi]
Hello !(^^)! It is ふ~?I am Japanese boy)
It asks.
Where is ".NET Terrarium 1.2.msi"?
If it starts from a start button, a dialog will appear and this file will be required.
Thank you for your consideration.

Are you guys going to release the source code or not? It is almost the end of October already. What's the story? Why do you keep saying you're going to release it but then not release it. |
| MigrationUser 1 Saturday, October 23, 2004 12:28 AM |
They said they're going to release it, and they most likely will. What's probably happening is that they just don't think the code's ready to be released to the public yet, and they're tidying it up
(Though they did post the message about the source a bit early ;) And the changelog is incorrect ) |

It's nearly January 1st. Has anybody heard anything? I found the original developer's blog, with the last post in late October, about Halo 2 and the October DirectX SDK Refresh. Any word on when this source will be released? I would love to be able to integrate the skinning stuff into an application I am writing. It seems somewhat misleading to include the Terrarium client in the 'soup to nuts' applications section of the WindowsForms.net web site, if in fact it is vaporware.
