I have not been able to get the application to run. It has compiled without error but will not run. After entering Jdoe and Welcome to the login screen, I get this message: "Remote server is unreachable or request has timed-out". Under Web References, I have warning triangles for all the listed files. Double-click the triangle and it says that the files are not in the project directory. Now - the files with extension .xsd are in the directory, but those with the extensions .disco, .wsdl, and .map are not in the directory. Where do those files come from? What do you folks suggest I do to get this sample working?

make sure the URL is still pointing to the right place where you have the webservices (in the property windows when you select them) then right mouse click on them and say update reference and make sure you don't get an error from that. |

I did indeed get an error message on each of the web references when I attempted to update them. The error message was the same for both:
There was an error downloading 'http://localhost/taskvisionws/dataservice.asmx'. The request failed with the error:

no...just that there's some problem running your webservice...open up a browser and run the webservice manually and make sure you don't get an error |

Okay - I did indeed get an error message when I tried to open the asmx file directly in IE. The error message gave me a clue - so I moved the TaskvisionWS directory under my root directory. Then I corrected the application root in IIS. Now I was able to hit the web service directly without error. I then did the update web reference thing and it went well - the warning triangles disappeared. I rebuilt the solution and then clicked start under the debug menu - now I am back to the original error stating that the remote server is not available or the request timed out.

hhhmmm...ok, just wanted to make sure the webservice was working in the first place. quite honestly, i can't get mine to work either, but i believe it's because i'm using sql server authentication...it messes something up i guess because if i trace it through and watch it, it actually gets the authentication ticket from the webservice, but then when it goes to get the user's info it says that my sql user failed to login, even though all methods should be using the same connection. i can't for the life of me figure this out either. maybe someone else will come along and help |

Well - I do not how many this will work for but - I was able to get it working from the Source version by just changing my web server settings to accept anonymous connections and there you go. Just a point of information - all pieces are local (application, web server, and MSDE).
