Duplicate Designer.vb file when saving dataset

I'm having the following problem. When I change the dataset in a project Visual Studio generates a duplicate designer.vb I've tried the solution that was suggested in a similar post of deleting the designer files and running the Custom Tool but I end up with 2 designer files again and of course all of the changes in the dataset are saved in the duplicate dataset1.designer.vb file instead of the correct one.
Of course, the project will not build unless you delete the dataset1.designer.vb file.

Any help would be appreciated.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I'm having the same issues and posted in another similar post, but with no answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Folks, I figured out the fix.

Pre:
Clean up the project by removing the extra file (myDataSet1.Designer.cs) and saving everything in the desired state.  I also killed my myDataSet.Designer.cs, so I was ensured a new generated file was created.

1) Save and close VS
2) Open the project file (.csproj/.vbproj) with a text editor
3) Search for the name of the DataSet and edit the LastGenOutput:

    <None Include="myDataSet.xsd">
      <SubType>Designer</SubType>
      <Generator>MSDataSetGenerator</Generator>
      <LastGenOutput>myDataSet1.Designer.cs</LastGenOutput>
    </None>

What caused this duplicate file?  I think it was a combination of a manual edit of the XSD, VSS, and a ReadOnly designer file.  At which point, VS attempted to find an available filename.
